The Centre Region will celebrate Earth Day on Saturday with events in State College and at Penn State’s Arboretum.
State College Borough’s Earth Day celebration will take place in Sidney Friedman Park on South Fraser Street and at the Municipal Building, 243 S. Allen St., with entertainment, activities and food trucks. Music will begin at 11 a.m. in the park, while vendors and activities will be available from noon to 4 p.m.
Workshops and activities will include a Centre Wildlife Care live animal exhibit throughout the event in room 112 of the Municipal Building, an Adam Swartz puppet-making workshop from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the second floor all-purpose room, a Carve Your Own Stamp session with local artist Eve Pavlina from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in room 242 and an Earth Day Recycling Labyrinth hosted by Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

All live music and food vendors will be in the park. Food vendors include Brazilian Munchies, Coffee, Hemp and Tea, Rebelz Cuisine, Real Taste 570 and Webster’s Bookstore Cafe.

Earth Day at The Arboretum
The Arboretum at Penn State will hold its Earth Day Celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a special event for adults 21 and older in the evening.
Ongoing events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Childhood’s Gate Children’s Garden will include a Moon Tree Program, Nature Free Play, an educational outreach table staffed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission and an opportunity to decorate a recycled pot and plant a succulent with Penn State’s Teaching Elementary Science Leadership Academy.
Moon Tree Story Circles will be held at 11 a.m. and noon at the Childhood’s Gate Children’s Garden amphitheater. Visitors can also participate in guided mindful journaling from noon to 1:30 p.m. Overlook Pavilion and Poplar Court.
From 6 to 8 p.m., the Overlook Pavilion will host an Environmental Trivia Night for ages 21+. Registration is $20 per team and is available online.
Participants can thest their skills and have fun with friends while raising money for the Arboretum’s public programs fund. The winning team will bring home a basket of swag and the honor of being environmental trivia champions.
Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase from Boal City Brewing. ID is required.
