‘Gimme Shelter’ Benefit Concert Returns for Second Year to Support Housing Security in Centre Region

A benefit concert that impacts five local agencies fighting homelessness and housing insecurity in Centre County is set to return for its second year.

“Gimme Shelter: The Concert for Housing Security in the Centre Region” is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m. at South Hills School of Business and Technology, 480 Waupelani Drive, State College.

The concert will be emceed by radio personality Jeff Brown and feature performances by the Nittany Knights Barbershop Chorus, Biscuit Jam, Eric Ian Farmer and Jason O, My Hero Zero frontman.

According to a press release, the benefit concert “aims to raise not only money, but also awareness of the scale of housing insecurity in the region.” Concert proceeds will be equally divided between Out of the Cold, Centre Safe, Housing Transitions, State College Community Land Trust and the Centre County Youth Service Bureau.

“Not only are there many homeless people in our community, but there are also many more who are just one layoff or one personal crisis away from it,” Selden Smith, an event organizer, shared. “Luckily there are also a lot of dedicated people working for change.”

The event is sponsored by Kish Bank, Meyer Dairy Store, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, South Hills School of Business and Technology, The Family Clothesline and the State College Borough.
