The Mwenso and The Shakes concert scheduled for Wednesday at Penn State’s Eisenhower Auditorium has been postponed by the band “due to unforeseen circumstances,” according to a Center for the Performing Arts news release on Monday.
The band instead will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19 at the University Park campus venue. Tickets purchased for the March 23 date will be honored at the April 19 concert, or patrons can contact the Arts Ticket Center for a refund.
Tickets are still available for purchase at $38 for adults, $5 for University Park students and $28 for those 18 and younger online, by calling at 814-863-0255 or in person from noon to 4 p.m. weekdays at Eisenhower Auditorium.
The event is part of the Center for the Performing Arts Fierce Urgency Festival, the center’s commitment to celebrating Black artists and sharing their stories, with a theme this season of “Hope-Resist-Heal.”
Michael Mwenso will host a listening session at 6 p.m. tonight (March 21) in 134 HUB-Robeson Center in which he will introduce Black roots music and discuss its significance. The two-hour event is free and open to the public.
Mwenso and The Shakes opened the Center for the Performing Arts 2021-22 season in September with an outdoor concert on the Eisenhower patio. The Black roots band returns for the spring 2022 season for an indoor performance of “Hope-Resist-Heal: A Celebration of Black Joy.”
