Port Matilda EMS recognized state Rep. Scott Conklin’s support for emergency responders by naming its new ambulance in his honor.

Conklin, D-Rush Township, was instrumental in securing the grant that allowed Port Matilda EMS to purchase the new ambulance, according to the service.

“I am deeply humbled that the first responders at Port Matilda EMS have chosen to dedicate this ambulance in my name, but they are the true heroes,” Conklin said. “They are the ones who stand ready 24/7 to render lifesaving care, regardless of the dangers or challenges involved.

The dedication ceremony was held on Saturday at the start of Homestead Day at The Heirloom Farmer in Port Matilda.

May 19-25 is the 50th annual EMS Week, a time that honors the importance of emergency medical services in protecting the health and safety of communities nationwide.

“We can never do enough for our EMS workers and other first responders, and we can never thank them enough,” Conklin said. “But we can do everything in our power to support them and try to ensure that they have the resources they need to carry on their lifesaving work.”
