Sustainable State College, the borough’s sustainability division, is seeking vendors and artists to participate in its first Earth Day celebration.
The celebration will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at the State College Municipal Building, 243 S. Allen St. The afternoon will include entertainment, activities and food.
Vendors interested in participating — including information booths, engagement stations, food vendors, sustainable arts and crafts and workshops with interactive activities — can apply online.
An Earth Day Art Exhibition also will be part of the festivities, and submissions are being accepted now until 4:30 p.m. on April 12 at the Municipal Building second floor.
“This call for art seeks to raise awareness about the importance of art in documenting our present and our future,” Sustainability Program Officer Jasmine Fields said in a statement. “Art can be used as a tool for climate change campaigns as it makes complex issues more accessible, relatable and emotionally resonant.”
Individuals or groups can submit artwork, and a “people’s choice” vote will take place during the celebration. Entries will be displayed in the Municipal Building beginning April 19, and selected works will be featured in the borough’s Climate Action, Resiliency and Environmental Sustainability Plan or in other communications materials.
Submissions will have two age categories: 13 to 17 years old and 18 and older. Entry requirements and guidelines can be viewed at statecollegepa.us/777/Earth-Day-Art-Exhibit.
The exhibition “is intended encourage the public to creatively visualize climate change in Pennsylvania and raise awareness about climate change through art,” according to a news release.
