Centre County Adds 16 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 4,391 New Positives

Centre County reported 16 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday to bring its total to 18,048, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases 16,377 are confirmed and 1,671 are probable.

Pennsylvania added 4,391 positives to increase the statewide total to 1,329,111.

The county also had 58 new negative test results for a total of 76,196. Statewide there were 7,408 negatives to bring the total to 5,214,430.

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 232.

With 38 new COVID-19 deaths statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is 28,446.

Hospitalizations

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 15 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, two fewer than on Tuesday. One is in intensive care [-1] and on a ventilator [-1].

Pennsylvania has 2,082 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 72 since Tuesday, with with 506 in intensive care [+10] and 250 on ventilators [+2]. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since May 5.

An estimated 92% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Transmission level

Centre County is at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Tuesday afternoon.

Across Pennsylvania, 65 of 67 counties are at the high level. Only Chester and Philadelphia counties are at the substantial level, the second highest on the CDC scale

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Tuesday morning, 81,002 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+68 since Tuesday] and 6,617 are partially covered [-6]. According to the CDC, 60.2% of the county’s entire population and 67.1% of adult residents have received at least one dose.

Statewide, 66.6% of adults are vaccinated and Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administer, according the CDC.

Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
