Centre County registered two new COVID-19 deaths and 126 more cases of the virus on Tuesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The county now has had 278 deaths attributed to the virus since the start of the pandemic, including 20 this month.
The new cases increase Centre County’s total to 24,692 (22,270 confirmed and 2,422 probable). The county also had 143 new negative test results to bring the total to 86,273.
Pennsylvania added 9,607 cases, bringing the commonwealth’s total to 1,904,121. Statewide, there were 5,118 new negatives for a total of 6,033,195.
With 197 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 35,615.
Hospitalizations
Mount Nittany Medical Center has 56 COVID-positive, one more than on Monday, with six in intensive care [-1] and four on ventilators [-1].
The patients range in age from 22 to 95, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Thirteen are fully vaccinated and 43, about 77%, are not vaccinated.
Pennsylvania has 4,552 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 25 since Monday, with 931 in intensive care [-2] and 584 on ventilators [+13].
An estimated 89% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.
Prison cases
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has seven active COVID-19 cases among inmates [-8] and 20 among staff [-3].
Rockview state prison has 27 active inmate cases [+22] and 16 among staff [-1].
Both facilities are in Benner Township.
At Benner, 1,528 inmates are fully vaccinated, nine are partially vaccinated and 192 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 294 are fully vaccinated [+1] and 334 are not vaccinated [-1].
Rockview has 1,685 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 63 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 341 are fully vaccinated [+1] and 376 are not vaccinated [-1].
Transmission level
All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.
Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.
Vaccinations
As of Tuesday morning, 90,368 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 64 since Monday, and 11,724 are partially covered [+61]. Booster doses have been administered to 33,454 county residents [+534].
Among the county’s entire population, 64.8% have received at least one dose and 56.5% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 70.1% have received at least one dose and 66.2% are fully vaccinated.
A DOH statement on Tuesday said the department is continuing to work with the CDC on matching state-level data. The CDC dashboards are being updated to show approximately 300,000 more Pennsylvanians are already fully vaccinated and 1,080,000 fewer with at least one dose. As a result, Centre County’s one-dose percentage dropped by 6.3 percentage points, while the fully vaccinated increased 1.4.
Statewide, 73.7% of adults and 63.3% of the total population are fully vaccinated.
Vaccination appointments through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
All individuals age 16 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
