Centre County reported 40 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday to bring its total to 19,287. Among total cases 17,471 are confirmed and 1,816 are probable.
Pennsylvania added 4,570 positives to increase the statewide total to 1,425,048.
The county also had 138 new negative test results for a total of 79,369. Statewide there were 9,781 negatives to bring the total to 5,442,101.
Deaths
DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 235.
With 97 new COVID-19 deaths statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is 29,323. It was the highest one-day increase in COVID deaths since late February.
Hospitalizations
Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 36 COVID-19 inpatients, two fewer than on Tuesday, with six in intensive care and six on ventilators. The patients range in age from 11 to 89. Nine are fully vaccinated against the virus and 27 are not vaccinated, according to the medical center’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard.
Statewide, Pennsylvania has 2,843 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 65 since Tuesday, with 681 in intensive care [+15] and 376 on ventilators [+20]. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since April 21.
An estimated 90% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.
Transmission level
All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Tuesday afternoon.
Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.
Vaccinations
As of Wednesday morning, 83,044 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+42 since Tuesday] and 6,359 are partially covered [+53]. Booster doses have been administered to 1,720 county residents [+156].
Among the county’s entire population, 61.7% have received at least one dose and 53.2% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 68.8% have received at least one dose and 59.3% are fully vaccinated
Statewide, 68.6% of adults are fully vaccinated and Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administered, according the CDC.
Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
