Winter Storm Warning Issued for Centre County

Just as the snow from a late January storm in Centre County had finally melted, more is on the way Sunday.

The National Weather Service at State College has issue a winter storm warning for Centre County and much of central Pennsylvania from 1 a.m. Sunday to 1 p.m. Monday. Heavy snow with accumulations ranging from 4 to 9 inches are possible, along with wind gusts up to 40 mph, according to the warning, which was upgraded Saturday night from the winter storm watch issued earlier in the day

In the State College area, the NWS forecasts about 2 to 6 inches between early Sunday and Monday. As of Saturday afternoon, AccuWeather forecasts intermittent wet snow with the greatest likelihood of accumulations ranging from 2 to 4 inches.

“Travel could be very difficult,” according to the NWS. “The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.”

Temperatures will hover between 31 and 33 degrees on Sunday, with most of the day at or above freezing, before dipping into the upper 20s for a time early Monday morning, according to AccuWeather.

Heavier snow is expected further east in Pennsylvania, where winter storm warnings are in effect, and along the Atlantic Coast from New Jersey to New England, where the highest totals are anticipated, according to AccuWeather.
