Centre County Adds 70 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 6,024 New Positives

Centre County reported 70 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday to bring its total to 21,874, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases, 19,695 are confirmed and 2,179 are probable.

Pennsylvania added 6,024 positives to increase the statewide total to 1,660,087.

The county also had 82 new negative test results, bringing its total of 83,772. Statewide, there were 5,795 negatives for a total of 5,829,320.

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 251.

With 150 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 32,633.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 35 COVID-19 inpatients, four more than on Tuesday, with four in intensive care and two on ventilators.

The patients range in age from 37 to 87, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Twelve are fully vaccinated and 23 are not vaccinated

Pennsylvania has 3,016 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 168 since Tuesday, with 657 in intensive care [+26] and 359 on ventilators [+10], according to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard. Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations are at their highest level in four weeks.

An estimated 92% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Transmission level

Centre County remains at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Among Pennsylvania 67 counties, all but one are at the high level. Philadelphia is at the substantial level, the second highest on the CDC scale.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Wednesday morning, 85,748 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+85 since Tuesday] and 10,237 are partially covered [+56]. Third doses have been administered to 17,644 county residents [+770].

Among the county’s entire population, 70.2% have received at least one dose and 55.7% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 76.9% have received at least one dose and 62% are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 73.2% of adults and 61.7% of the total population are fully vaccinated. Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administered, according the CDC.
