Former president and current Republican nominee Donald Trump’s campaign rally on Saturday at the Bryce Jordan Center will cause several road closures, some of which will temporarily impact travel to Mount Nittany Medical Center and State College Regional Airport.

From approximately 2 to 3:30 p.m., people traveling to the medical center should use Orchard Road or Interstate 99, according to a Penn State news release.

Fox Hill Road leading to the airport will be closed during the same estimated time periods. The airport will remain open, but advised in a Facebook post that travelers arrive at least 90 minutes prior to their flights to avoid issues accessing parking lots and the terminal building.

The road closures are necessary for security measures, according to the university.

Specific road closure times will depend on when Trump arrives and departs. The rally is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

“In addition, anyone who needs to travel to or through these areas or in the vicinity of the Bryce Jordan Center during this time should plan for possible delays in reaching their destination,” Penn State wrote in a news release.

Curtin Road will be closed between University Drive and Porter Road all day, according to a traffic advisory from College Township. Temporary closures will also be in place on Porter Road and Dauer Drive.

Because of the closures in the area of the Jordan Center, CATA bus routes, except for the Red Link, will follow the Game Day Detour schedule for the entire day. Full detour information for each affected route is available at catabus.com/rider-alerts.

Red Link service will operate on Bigler Road, Pollock Road, Shortlidge Road, College Avenue and Burrowes Road before returning to White Course Drive. There will be no service at the Visual Arts Building or the Pattee TC westbound stops. Instead, passengers should utilize the stops located across Curtin Road.

The Trump rally is one of three events happening on the eastern part of University Park campus Saturday afternoon. The Penn State men’s hockey team will host St. Lawrence at 4 p.m. across University Drive in Pegula Ice Arena, and the Nittany Lion men’s soccer team plays Wisconsin at 7 p.m. nearby at Jeffrey Field.

Doors for the Trump rally open at noon. Tickets can be requested online.

The Trump campaign has rented the Jordan Center for the event in accordance with university policy, Penn State wrote in a news release.

“The campaign or candidate is responsible for paying the facility charge as well as ancillary service costs,” Penn State wrote. “The University applies this policy consistently and fairly, regardless of the candidate’s party or political views. The campaign event is not sponsored by the University or any University-affiliated group.”
