An Altoona man was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Ferguson Township.
Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash which occurred at about 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of East Pine Grove Road and St. Elmo’s Lane.
According to Ferguson Township police, the 34-year-old driver was traveling too fast and was unable to negotiate the curve near the Pine Grove Mills Post Office. After striking a guardrail, the vehicle spun left and came to rest partially over an embankment in a stream.
A witness saw the vehicle moving erratically at a high rate of speed before the crash, police said.
Alpha Fire Company was called to the scene to assist with extricating the driver from the vehicle, which was deemed too unstable for him to safely exit.
After about 15 minutes, an Alpha crew stabilized the car and the driver was able to step out safely on his own.
The driver was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center by Centre LifeLink EMS to be treated for injuries.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
