Matthew and Anne Schuyler presented the Alumni Association’s Lion Ambassadors with a whopping $1 million gift Wednesday.
The donation will set up an endowment that will generate $50,000 per year to help fund the Lion Ambassadors in perpetuity.
Matt Schuyler graduated from Penn State in 1987 and obtained his Master’s in business administration from Michigan. He’s currently chief human resources operator for Hilton Worldwide. He’s an Alumni Fellow, and serves on the board of directors of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America.
The Lion Ambassadors, founded in 1982, are probably best known for giving campus tours, but are also involved with the S-Zone at Beaver Stadium and guarding of the Lion Shrine during Homecoming.
While the gift would need to be repeated 101 times to equal what Terry Pegula donated for Penn State’s hockey program, it’s obviously still a notable sum, the largest in the 143 years of the Alumni Association’s existence.
It’s been a good couple of days in that regard for Penn State on the whole — philanthropist Brook J. Lenfest pledged a $7 million scholarship for Philadelphia-area students Tuesday.
