The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Saturday reported one new case of COVID-19 in Centre County, bringing its total to 152 since the first was reported on March 20.
DOH also now lists seven deaths attributed to the virus in Centre County, up from six. It’s unclear, however, whether the additional death is new.
Until Wednesday, the health department reported six COVID-19 deaths among Centre County residents, while the coroner’s office reported only five. Because deaths are listed by county of residency, it is possible a Centre County resident died elsewhere in the state. Coroner Scott Sayers reported a new COVID-19 death on Wednesday as the sixth in the county, and that number matched the DOH figures for the past two days until the department added the seventh on Saturday.
Across Pennsylvania, there have been 5,537 COVID-19 deaths, with 73 new deaths reported on Saturday.
DOH also reported 680 new cases statewide on Saturday, bringing Pennsylvania’s total to 71,415. It was the 20th consecutive day the state has reported fewer than 1,000 new cases.
The health department estimates that 66 percent of patients with the virus — or about 47,134 Pennsylvanians — have recovered.
Of Pennsylvania’s total cases, 69,424 are confirmed and 1,991 are probable.
In Centre County, confirmed cases by zip code are:
16823 (Bellefonte): 39
16801 (State College): 34
16803 (State College): 25
16827 (Boalsburg): 9
16870 (Port Matilda): 9
16828 (Centre Hall), 16866 (Philipsburg), 16844 (Julian), 16841 (Howard), 16875 (Spring Mills), 16852 (Madisonburg) and 16872 (Rebersburg) each have 1-4 cases. Specific numbers are not provided for zip codes with fewer than five cases.
Among Centre County’s bordering counties, Huntingdon now has 230 cases, Mifflin and Union each have 59, Clinton has 56, Blair has 50 and Clearfield has 39.
A total of 375,731 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for COVID-19, including 2,078 people in Centre County. Across the state, 1,347 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 283 requiring a ventilator, as of noon on Saturday.
Individual county data for Pennsylvania is available at the Department of Health website.
According to Johns Hopkins University, the United States has had 1,756,170 cases of COVID-19, with 103,153 deaths and 406,446 recoveries.
