Ferguson Township police made 21 vehicle stops and issued “numerous” citations during a strategic traffic enforcement on Friday, according to a department news release.

The enforcement, conducted on Blue Course Drive as part of the Centre County Traffic Safety Grant, stopped motorists for speeding and aggressive driving violations.

Following the detail, Ferguson Township police joined four other local police departments — State College, Penn State, Patton Township and Spring Township — for regional impaired driving enforcement detail that resulted in “several people being taken for a blood test under the suspicion of DUI,” according to the release.

DUI charges are pending the results of the blood tests.

“In an ongoing effort to ensure the safety of our community, strategic details will continue this fall throughout Centre County as part of the Traffic Safety/DUI Task Force,” the department wrote. “Officers will be targeting aggressive driving and cell phone violations, as well as all impaired driving violations. Remember, ‘Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.’”
