2 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Centre County; Statewide Total Tops 62,000

The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Sunday reported two new cases of COVID-19 in Centre County, bringing the county’s total to 131 since the first was reported on March 20.

Nursing and personal care home data reported by the health department show an increase of one resident and one employee case in Centre County. Three nursing homes in the county now have a combined 18 resident and 13 employee cases. Five of the county’s six deaths have been among nursing home residents.

Overall, Centre County has added 29 new cases in the past two weeks.

Statewide, Pennsylvania’s total number of COVID-19 cases is now 62,234, with 623 new positives reported on Sunday. It was the seventh consecutive day the state had fewer than 1,000 new cases.

Pennsylvania has had 4,418 COVID-19 deaths, with the health department reporting 15 new deaths on Sunday.

16828 (Centre Hall), 16866 (Philipsburg), 16844 (Julian), 16841 (Howard), 16852 (Madisonburg) each have 1-4 cases. Specific numbers are not provided for zip codes with fewer than five cases.

Among Centre County’s bordering counties, Huntingdon now has 214 cases, Mifflin has 57, Union has 47, Clinton has 44, Blair has 38 and Clearfield has 33.

A total of 270,670 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for COVID-19, including 1,483 people in Centre County. Across the state, 1,808 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 414 requiring a ventilator, as of noon on Sunday.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health does not provide data on recovered patients. According to Johns Hopkins University, the United States has had 1,471,674 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 88,836 deaths and 268,376 recoveries.
