The Pennsylvania Department of Health removed five COVID-19 cases from Centre County’s total on Wednesday, reducing its count to 172 since the first was reported on March 20.
It’s not clear why the cases were removed. Health department officials have previously said that numbers may be adjusted if a patient’s county of residence is corrected.
Centre County nursing home cases remained unchanged, with 28 among residents and 14 among employees at three facilities, according to health department data.
Statewide there have been 79,818 total cases, including 335 new positives reported on Wednesday. It marked the fourth consecutive day the state added fewer than 400 new cases.
The health department also reported 43 new deaths attributed to the virus, increasing Pennsylvania’s total to 6,319.
An estimated 75 percent of patients with the virus — or about 59,864 — have recovered, according to DOH.
Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 77,543 are confirmed and 2,275 are probable. In Centre County, 163 are confirmed and nine are probable.

16865 (Pennsylvania Furnace), 16828 (Centre Hall), 16866 (Philipsburg), 16844 (Julian), 16875 (Spring Mills), 16852 (Madisonburg) and 16872 (Rebersburg) each have 1-4 cases. Specific numbers are not provided for zip codes with fewer than five cases.
Among bordering counties, Huntingdon now has 239 cases, Union has 83, Clinton has 64, Mifflin has 60, Clearfield has 57 and Blair has 55.
A total of 533,013 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for COVID-19, including 3,148 people in Centre County. Across the state, 791 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 169 requiring use of a ventilator as of noon on Wednesday.
