Schlow Centre Region Public Library recently announced that its Children’s Department will be the beneficiary of the 24th annual Knights of Columbus State College Adventure 5K race.

The race has benefited a variety of local organizations, and now includes free children’s races for kids ages 12 and under.

“We are especially appreciative of the race organizers choosing Schlow Library as the beneficiary this year, at a time when state funding has been declining,” says Anita Ditz, head of children’s services at Schlow. “The race is a wonderful event that embodies the spirit of our Children’s Department — the spirit of adventure and enthusiasm, with fun for all ages.”

The 5K features a gentle course, and is the official “Beginners’ 5K” of the Nittany Valley Running Club, making it ideal for families and new runners.

The race is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12. It will begin at the Knights’ Hall, 850 Stratford Drive in State College. The entry fee is $20. The free kids’ races — both a quarter- and a half-mile — will take place after the completion of the 5K at 2:45 p.m.
