The event is is sponsored by Penn State’s College of Agriculture. It’s held at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center in Rock Springs, about nine miles from State College, off Route 45.
Ag progress Days is Pennsylvania’s largest outdoor agricultural exposition, featuring the latest technology in agriculture. But it’s mostly just fun for everyone.
Some of the biggest attractions are the food booths which sell something for everyone, including sausage sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers and the like. Ann Reede of Ferguson Township was keeping busy running the cash register for the Ferguson Township Lions Club. Reede described business as “brisk” saying, “People come here to look around and eat or eat and look around. I’m not sure which.”
There are 400 exhibitors from 34 states and 4 provinces of Canada. Last year, 45,000 people attended Ag Progress Days. Of that number, over 60% of the spectators are actively engaged in agriculture or related professions.
Just some of Tuesday’s events included tree climbing and rappelling lesson for kids, a horse training show, antique farm machinery demonstrations, and a huge display of the latest farming equipment.
It takes up a lot of space — 55 acres for all the indoor and outdoor exhibits. Another 35 acres is set aside just for parking.
