The Patton Township Police Department is in the midst of a six-week crackdown on aggressive driving. Police Chief John Petrick is placing area drivers on notice — his officers are watching.

The Aggressive Driving Enforcement Detail, which is funded by a grant from PennDot, began on March 18. It continues until April 28.

The biggest problem is speeding and running red lights.

Officers are focusing on three roads, North Atherton St., Valley Vista Dr. and West Clearview Ave. Police have been getting a lot of complaints about unsafe driving on those roads.

Chief Petrick says, “We’re trying to get people to obey traffic laws. We’re finding out that people are not obeying speed limit laws.”

And people are finding out that it’s Patton Township police officers who are being aggressive.

During a four hour period on Friday, 15 traffic tickets were handed out along Valley Vista Dr. On Saturday, officers ticketed 23 drivers on North Atherton St. Since the crackdown began a total of 131 traffic citations have been issued.
