Long time Bellefonte hang out Cool Beans Coffee and Tea is up for sale, but don’t worry, current owner Sherry Nelson said she is looking for the right buyer to take over the shop and keep the business going.
“We are in no rush, even if it takes six months or whatever, we are good with waiting until we find the right buyer,” said Ben Nelson, Sherry’s husband. Sherry Nelson said she is hoping to see “very limited if any changes” to the cafe as it changes ownership.
Sherry Nelson bought the shop three and a half years ago, and kept things the same as they were before she took over.
“That worked out great for us and hopefully it works out great for the new owner,” said Sherry Nelson. She said the coffee shop, which has been around for 21 years, is a part of Bellefonte and she wants to see it continue that way. The shop sells homemade baked goods, sandwiches and local specialty products, along with coffee and tea drinks. The walls showcase works from local artists.
She said it was a difficult decision to move on, but an opportunity came along for her to pursue a new adventure in her life, so she decided to take it.
“It was a hard choice for Sherry, but this is something that she always wanted to do,” said Ben Nelson. The couple did not discuss what that new adventure is.
Until she finds the right buyer, things will be business as usual at the café. But it will be hard for her to say goodbye to all the customers she has had over the years.
“I will miss the community part of it, as far as getting to know the community more as the owner. I will miss the regular customers. That is what makes it so hard to go. I am ready, but I am not ready,” said Sherry Nelson. “I will definitely miss all of them. I will be one that is in here all the time just so I can see everybody.”
