Black Friday is the traditional start to the holiday shopping season, with millions of Americans lining up for the sales bonanza.
But the shopping spree is now creeping into the Thanksgiving celebration.
Call it “Black Thursday” — stores expect to see people at their doors come Thursday night.
Mike Meraglia, manager of the North Atherton Street Walmart, says Walmart will be open on Thanksgiving.
“We’re 24 hours so we don’t ever close except on Christmas day,” Meraglia says. “We’re always open for Thanksgiving. We’ve been open that day for several years now.”
Some of the hot ticket items Meraglia emphasizes are on sale include an iPad mini for $299 with a hundred dollar gift card and a $98 32-inch LED television. Another item on sale are Beat headphones for $114.95.
Bon-Ton in the Nittany Mall will be opening its doors at 8 p.m. Thursday, and it is the first time it’s done that. In years past they’ve opened at midnight on Black Friday.
“it was primarily because of the other larger department stores opening at eight on Thursday,” Store Manager Bruce Aungst says. “Bon-Ton followed suit with that.”
Aungst says the store is marking down include reversible down-alternative comforters, which will sell for $19.97, and 50 percent off selected women’s boots.
Macy’s in the Nittany Mall will open at 8 p.m Thursday, for the first time in Macy’s history, according to the store’s website. Doorbusters will be on sale through 1 p.m. on Black Friday.
Customers can look forward to finding deals on clothes, with certain men’s dress shirts priced at under $20 and some women’s boots that would normally cost almost $70 marked down to $19. Artificial Christmas trees will also be on sale, with some as low as $119.99.
