The Penn State Blue Band will kick off another home football game with its third annual Blue Band Jam. The event will take place Saturday at 1:15 p.m. in the Bryce Jordan Center.
The Blue Band Jam was introduced in 2014 as a revamped version of Band Day, which began as a collaboration between high school bands and the Blue Band on Beaver Field in 1950. At the 1971 Band Day event, the Blue Band Drum Major performed the first official pre-game flip. Band Day continued as a yearly tradition before it came to an end in 1975.
This year’s Blue Band Jam will bring bands from Hollidaysburg, Portage Area, Mifflinburg, East Pennsboro, Susquenita, and Saucon Valley high schools to University Park. The event will include individual songs from each high school and music from the Blue Band. The jam is free and open to students, staff, faculty, and the public.
