Boalsburg’s celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Memorial Day in 1864 will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 11 in the Boalsburg cemetery.

David Felice, Centre County Civil War re-enactor, will kick off the celebration with a presentation at the annual meeting of the Boalsburg Village Conservancy at Liberty Hill, 411 Beacon Circle in Boalsburg.

Felice will appear in period uniform as Captain James Patterson and discuss his Company G of Boalsburg, whose soldiers included Amos Moyer who was killed at Gettysburg and whose grave was decorated by his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Myers, at the first Memorial Day in 1864.

Patterson was the teacher at the Boalsburg Academy and recruited many of his students at a historic meeting in August 1862 at the Old Stone Church in Boalsburg, now the site of the Zion Lutheran Church.

The public is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served. Click HERE for more information or contact conservancy president Christopher Lee at (814) 466-9266 or office@boalmuseum.com.
