A boil water advisory that had been in place for two days in part of the Centre Region was lifted on Wednesday morning, according to the State College Borough Water Authority.
SCBWA issued the advisory on Monday after an equipment failure and main break along North Oak Lane “created a loss of positive pressure in a portion of the distribution system,” that lasted from several minutes to a half hour. While pressure was restored quickly, crews continued working to repair the break and flushing the affected section of the system to ensure water quality meets regulatory requirements.
“Following the recent water line repairs, the results of water samples collected found it safe to drink. All residents impacted by the advisory NO LONGER need to boil their water before consuming it,” SCBWA wrote on Wednesday morning.
More than 150 streets, largely in the Greenbriar, Park Forest and Gray’s Woods areas, were affected.
Loss of positive water pressure is a sign of conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system, increasing the chance that water may contain disease-causing organisms, according to the SCBWA. Affected customers were advised to use bottled or bring water to a rolling boil for one minute and allow it to cool before use for drinking, making ice, food preparation, washing dishes and brushing teeth.
