Several parking changes will be in effect in State College for the Fourth of July weekend, with some restrictions lifted and no parking in areas of Monday’s parade route.
One-hour and two-hour restrictions and “No Parking 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.” restrictions will not be enforced beginning at noon on Friday. Parking restrictions will resume at 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
Parking on any street in and around the 4thFest Parade of Heroes route will not be permitted on Monday. Vehicles will be ticketed and towed. The parade begins at 2 p.m. and is expected to end at about 3:30 p.m. Parking will be prohibited during that time Monday on:
• 100 and 200 blocks of West Nittany Avenue
• 300 block of South Pugh Street
• Allen Street Parking Lot
• 100 block of East Foster Avenue
• 100-300 blocks of South Allen Street
• 200 and 300 blocks of South Fraser Street
• 100-300 blocks of East College Avenue
The parade route will be closed to vehicle traffic from approximately 2 to 3:30 p.m. Motorists may experience some traffic delays during the time of the parade. and a detour route will be in effect. Westbound thru traffic on East College Avenue will be detoured onto University Drive. The parade route is:
North on South Allen Street to East College Avenue
East on East College Avenue to Shortlidge Road
North on Shortlidge Road to Pollock Road
East Pollock Road to Bigler Road
North on Bigler Road to Curtin Road
East on Curtin Road and ending near the Bryce Jordan Center
The borough is encouraging visitors to downtown to use the parking garages at Beaver Avenue, Fraser Street or Pugh Street. Parking in each garage will be free for cars entering after 8 a.m. and exiting by midnight on Monday.
Lawn parking will not be permitted, and ‘No Parking Anytime’ will be enforced, along with any vehicle code violations.
The fireworks display on July 4, which will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m., will also impact traffic
For inbound traffic, Porter Road and Orchard Road will be closed from approximately 8 pm until the end of the fireworks. Motorists will not be permitted to park along the streets near the stadium, along the Mt. Nittany Expressway, Route 220 (I-99) or Orchard Road. Parking restrictions will be enforced and violators will be ticketed and/or towed.
At approximately 9:40 PM the following traffic pattern will be put into effect until the outbound traffic has cleared:
• Park Avenue will be one-way westbound from Fox Hollow Road to North Atherton Street
• Park Avenue will be one-way eastbound from Fox Hollow Road to Orchard Road
• Porter Road will be one-way southbound from Beaver Stadium to East College Avenue
Motorists should expect delays during outbound traffic, with traffic volume expected to be equivalent to that of a Penn State home football game.
