CATA Adds Free Wi-Fi to All Transit Vehicles

It’s now easier to stay connected while riding on public transit in the Centre Region.

The Centre Area Transportation Authority has added free onboard Wi-Fi across its entire fleet, including fixed-route buses and CATA Go and CATA Ride vehicles.

“People rely on CATA every day to get to work, school, appointments and everywhere else they need to be,” CATA CEO Todd Horsley said in a statement on Monday. “We’re always looking for practical ways to improve the customer experience. Adding free Wi-Fi is a simple improvement that makes the ride more convenient and gives our customers another reason to choose CATA.”

Riders can select the CATANET Wi-Fi network, then will be provided with connection guidelines and instructions for internet access while they travel.

Free Wi-Fi is among recent and ongoing customer-focused improvements, according to CATA, including expanded digital payment options and accessibility upgrades to the authority’s website.

“Connectivity is an important part of life these days, and we want riders to be able to make the most of their time on board,” Donny Lynch, CATA’s director of information technology, said. “As with any public Wi-Fi, we encourage following basic digital security practices, including using secure websites and avoiding sensitive transactions on shared networks.”
