Centre County Adds 1 New Case of COVID-19; New Cases Statewide Continue Decline

The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Tuesday reported one new case of COVID-19 in Centre County, bringing the county’s total to 148 since the first was confirmed on March 20.

Statewide, Pennsylvania has had a total of 68,637 cases, with 451 new positives reported on Tuesday. It was the 15th consecutive day the state has had fewer than 1,000 new cases and second consecutive day with fewer than 500, although the holiday weekend may have contributed to lower reporting numbers.

Using a calculation ‘similar to what is being done by several other states,’ DOH estimates 61 percent — 41,869— of Pennsylvanians with the virus have recovered.

Of Pennsylvania’s total cases, 66,779 are confirmed and 1,858 are probable.

Pennsylvania has had 5,152 deaths attributed to the virus, including 13 added to the count by the health department on Tuesday.

Centre County has had six COVID-19 deaths, according to the department, with the most recent reported on Saturday.

Centre County has added 26 new cases in the past two weeks.

Among Centre County’s bordering counties, Huntingdon now has 228 cases, Mifflin has 58, Union has 56, Clinton has 54, Blair has 48 and Clearfield has 37.

A total of 339,835 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for COVID-19, including 1,966 people in Centre County. Across the state, 1,628 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 320 requiring a ventilator, as of 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
