State College 19, St. Augustine Prep 7

State College traveled to New Jersey to take on St. Augustine Prep and despite the long drive, the Little Lions got off to a fast start. State College quarterback Tommy Friberg found Cohen Russell over the middle, Russell took off for a 77-yard touchdown and the Little Lions had a 7-0 first quarter lead.

The Hermits responded with a long drive capped by an 8-yard Jaylen DeCoteau touchdown run to tie the game, 7-7, in the second. But Friberg found Cohen again on a screen pass and the speedy senior went 73 yards for the score. The Little Lions took a 13-7 lead into halftime.

It would remain that way until late in the fourth quarter, when junior running back Isaiah Edwards broke off a 75-yard touchdown run to seal the win.

State College improves to 2-0.

Bellefonte 10, Huntingdon 0

The visiting Red Raiders drove deep into Huntingdon territory on a couple of occasions in the first half but were unable to put points on the board and at halftime the game was scoreless.

That changed quickly in the third quarter, when Bellefonte quarterback Kyle Myers connected with Trae Bauman on a slant for a 55-yard touchdown. Myers led the Raiders on another drive that stalled inside the Huntingdon 20 and senior Chris Persiko’s 32-yard field goal would close out the scoring for the night.

A week after hanging 52 on Mount Union to open the season, the Huntingdon offense was stymied as Bellefonte’s Caleb Rockey, C.J. Funk and Ethan Rossman came up with big sacks throughout the night.

Bellefonte improves to 2-0. Huntingdon falls to 1-1.

It was a back-and-forth affair in Spring Mills before the Bison pulled away in the third quarter. A red-zone stop by the Rams at the end of the first half kept the game tied at 21 heading into halftime and the teams traded kickoff returns for TDs to tie it at 28-28 early in the third. The Bison, however, would take control the rest of the night and saw Caleb Freeland close things out late in the fourth quarter with his fifth touchdown run of the game.

For the Rams, quarterback Aaron Tobias threw for more than 400 yards with four touchdowns. Ryan Ripka and Logan Snyder both cracked 100 yards receiving with a touchdown each.
