A Unionville man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the rape and sexual assault of a child.
Gary Cain Jr., 43, was sentenced on Thursday by Centre County Senior Judge David Grine to 175 to 300 years in state prison.
Following a two-day trial in November, Cain was convicted on charges that he assaulted a child victim multiple times when she was between the ages of 12 and 16. He was convicted on one felony count each of rape, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual assault of a child, criminal attempt of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, indecent assault and corruption of minors; 16 felony counts of unlawful contact with a minor; and one misdemeanor count of indecent assault.
Cain was arrested in February 2017 on 158 charges after the victim disclosed that Cain had assaulted her at multiple locations in Centre County over the period of several years. She said that Cain was a family friend and that Cain and his family had come to live in her family’s home after his house burned down.
He had previously been convicted of indecent assault in 2000.
“Victims of abuse will be heard and these cases will be prosecuted,’ District Attorney Bernie Cantorna said in a statement. ‘Cain’s lengthy sentence is necessary to ensure public safety and to hold him accountable.’
