A staff member in the Centre County Controller’s office for the past 13 years will become the county’s new director of financial management, effective July 31.
The Centre County Board of Commissioners announced on Tuesday that Thomas Martin has been appointed to the position.
‘We are looking forward to working with Tom in his new role,’ Board Chairman Michael Pipe said. ‘His knowledge of Centre County government along with his extensive experience in financial management will be a valuable asset in providing leadership in this important area.’
Since joining the controller’s office staff in 2004, Martin has been responsible for conducting audits of county departments as required by the County Code and developing and implementing an internal audit schedule for those departments not specified in the code.
He also has assisted an independent external auditor in preparing the county’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, which has been earned the Governmental Financial Officers Association Award for Outstanding Financial Reporting for more than 10 years.
Before joining the controller’s office Martin was fiscal officer for the Centre County Housing Authority and held several financial positions with a local company.
Martin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and management from Lock Haven University. With more than 20 years of financial experience, he has expertise in budgeting and developing and implementing fiscal management policies.
‘This is an incredible opportunity and I’m truly honored and humbled to serve as the next director of financial management for the county,’ Martin said at Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting. ‘I’ve had the privilege of being able to work with many of the county employees and their dedication and knowledge have provided valuable services to many county residents. I’m looking forward to working with the board of commissioners, our county administrators, our department heads, our elected officials and our county employees in my new leadership role.’
Pipe said Martin was selected with the ‘enthusiastic endorsement’ of a search committee.
