Centre Foundation Helps Local Students with $221,000 in Scholarships

Nearly 100 local students are starting their post-high school educations with a scholarship from the Centre Foundation.

In all, 95 students received $221,240 in scholarships to attend 39 different post-secondary institutions.

‘This community is very generous and forward-thinking,’ said Centre Foundation Executive Director Molly Kunkel. ‘Centre Foundation administers 118 scholarship funds that were established by community members who understand the value of education – whether that is at a four-year university or a trade school.’

Scholarships managed by the Centre Foundation are established for various reasons, Kunkel said.

“Honoring a teacher’s legacy, memorializing a student who was lost too soon, and encouraging athletic or musical ability are just a few examples of events that have catalyzed the formation of some of the scholarships housed at Centre Foundation,’ she added.

Area high school seniors seeking to apply for a scholarship can work with their school district to apply in the spring when applications open. Centre Foundation has an online system to streamline the application process, and foundation staff work with school districts and the scholarship fund holders on applications and distribution each year.

Centre Foundation also administers scholarships from the American Association of University Women State College Branch and PEO Sisterhood for students pursuing education later in life.
