Charges will be filed against a man identified in a photo-taking incident this month at a local Wal-Mart, State College police said Monday.

The incident happened Aug. 12 at the Wal-Mart in College Township, 373 Benner Pike, according to prior police reports. A suspicious-looking man was seen taking repeated photos of a 10-year-old in the store, those reports show.

He snapped the images surreptitiously with a mobile-phone camera, police reported.

The juvenile’s mother confronted the man, who claimed ‘to be only using his phone calculator,’ according to an earlier news release. The man then quickly exited the Wal-Mart, police said.

After releasing store surveillance images to the public, State College police announced Friday that they had identified the suspicious man. Interviewed Monday, police Lt. Keith Robb confirmed that the man will face charges.

Those charges are likely to involve claims of stalking, Robb said.

As of Monday afternoon, though, the charges had not been formalized yet. The man’s name will be released publicly when charges are filed.
