State police at Rockview say charges are pending against a Maryland teenager who led troopers on a high-speed chase after a traffic stop in Centre County.
A trooper initiated a traffic stop of a Ford Escort at about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday near mile marker 65 on Interstate 99 southbound in Huston Township, according to a news release, which did not disclose the reason for the stop.
The 16-year-old driver fled “at a high rate of speed,” police wrote. A pursuit ended when the he crashed the vehicle into a creek on Reese Hollow Road.
He did not appear to be injured, according to the release, but was taken to UPMC Altoona for evaluation.
Police said they learned the teen left his Maryland home in the middle of the night and took the family vehicle without permission to visit a girlfriend in northwestern Pennsylvania.
