The Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology in Pleasant Gap will receive a $4 million state grant to help offset costs of building a new health sciences building, state Senator Jake Corman, R-Benner Township, announced.

“Constructing this building allows CPI to expand the array of educational opportunities the school provides to our local residents,” Corman said. “It’s an investment in our community and will meet the local demand for high-quality education close to home.”

The grant comes from Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which assists in the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.

CPI will use the $4 million toward the construction of a new 45,800 square-foot, three-story Health Sciences Building. The building will have technologically-advanced learning environments and will also include a leasable professional suite for use by a health-care partner that could offer students valuable clinical experience.

The new facility will allow CPI to offer degree programs for healthcare management, medical laboratory technicians, physical therapy assistants, surgical technicians and occupational therapy assistants.

“Career and technical education is the cornerstone to allowing our neighbors to not only get a family-sustaining job but maintain that employment into the future,” Corman said.  “Investments in education create jobs and improve the local economy. It’s a win-win for our community.”
