Dallas Children’s Theater will bring ‘The BFG (Big Friendly Giant)’ to Penn State’s Center for the Performing Arts with a show at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, in Eisenhower Auditorium.

The family-friendly show is based on a book by Roald Dahl, the celebrated author of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and ‘James and the Giant Peach.’

In the story, a young orphan ‘human bean,’ is terrified by the sight of a giant outside her window. She fears for her life when he takes her away to an enchanted land. She finds the job of this larger-than-life vegetarian is to blow magical dreams into children’s bedrooms. Together, they embark on a quest to save England from the ‘gizzard-gulping’ giants who lack the BFG’s tender heart.

Tickets are available at at cpa.psu.edu or by phone at 814-863-0255 or 800-ARTS-TIX.

Dallas Children’s Theater performs 11 productions per year at its home theater in Texas. The theater also includes a national touring company, theater academy and arts-in-education programs for schools in the Dallas area.

Kids Connections, which includes carbonation experiments by the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences Food Science Club and creative writing activities by America Reads, is free for ticket holders and takes place in Eisenhower one hour before the show. Due to space and time restrictions, Kids Connections participation is limited.

In conjunction with the show, Schlow Library, Discovery Space and the Center for Performing Arts will host two free Roald Dahl events on Saturday, April 2 in Schlow.

A BFG Costume Party will take place at 1:30 pm. The event is recommended for ages 2 to 12 and allows participants to show off their ideas of the BFG. Participants also get a chance to win tickets to ‘The BFG’ show at Eisenhower. Registration is not required.

Fizzy Science and the BFG, at 2:30 p.m., will give participants a chance to make Frobscottle and other fizzy things with experts from Discovery Space. The event is recommended for ages 6 to 12, registration is required and participation is limited to 30. Go to schlowlibrary.org/events for information.
