Get ready for another blast of bitter cold.
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Watch for State College and a swath of Central Pennsylvania.
The Wind Chill Watch will be in effect from Monday evening through Tuesday morning.
Temperatures could drop to between three and eight below zero. Winds will be 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
Wind chill readings could reached 15 to 20 degrees below zero during that time.
AccuWeather says Sunday will also be cold with a high of 21 degrees. Light snow is possible in the afternoon. We could get a coating to an inch of snow by Monday morning. Some snow is possible again on Monday. But Tuesday is when we’ll hit that extreme cold with the forecast calling for a high of just six degrees.
Temperatures that cold can lead to hypothermia and frost bite on unprotected skin in a short amount of time.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that your make any trips outside as short as possible. You should also follow these tips:
- Dress in layers and wear a hat, scarf and gloves
- Stay dry because wet clothing will chill the body rapidly
- Do not ignore shivering as it is the first sign that the body is losing heat
