Demolition of the former Phi Delta Theta house on North Burrowes Road is expected to happen in mid-August, Penn State spokesman Geoff Rushton said Monday.

Seeding for the green space to take its place is slated for September. Sidewalks and benches will be installed there in the fall semester, as well, Rushton said.

He said more thorough landscaping at the University Park property will take shape in the spring.

In May, Penn State completed its $1.75 million purchase of the century-old former fraternity house, at the southwest corner of North Burrowes and Pollock roads. Starting Tuesday, the area will be closed off as contractors begin the abatement and demolition process.

All vehicles parked there need to be removed by the end of business today, the university announced in a prepared statement.

‘The building is in a significant state of disrepair, and repairing or renovating it would cost millions of dollars,’ Penn State wrote in the statement.
