Dispatch, the popular rock, folk and reggae band with Vermont roots, will play Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center at 7 p.m. Aug. 28, StateCollege.com and OnwardState.com have confirmed.

Tickets are to go on sale at noon June 24 at www.ticketmaster.com and www.bjc.psu.edu, and via (814) 865-5555.

The Penn State show will be part of Dispatch’s ‘Amplifying Education’ tour, with a portion of all ticket proceeds to benefit education programs in local communities. Book donations to help restock New Orleans’ public-school libraries will be accepted at the concert, too.

On its first tour in a decade, Dispatch has a substantial college-age following and has sold out venues in Los Angeles, Boston and New York. It was the first independent band to sell out Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden. Its stops this month include cities in California, New Jersey and Georgia, according to the band’s official website.

Known for helping to create the nonprofit Elias Fund, the group formed in the 1990s and has been together for several reunion concerts since 2004. Its studio albums put out by Universal Records include ‘Silent Steeples’ (1996), ‘Bang Bang’ (1998), ‘Four-Day Trials’ (1999) and ‘Who Are We Living For?’ (2000).

StateCollege.com and OnwardState.com will post more information as it becomes available.
