The four children of a man murdered in 2010 are now receiving the benefits of their late father’s own recipes.
The children of Samuel Boob, who was allegedly murdered by a man hired by his wife three years ago, have received at least $16,000 total from an the unconventional cookbook called “Delectable Delights from the Dump” — a collection of recipes from not only their father but also his mother and grandmother.
Amy Schirf, education coordinator with the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority, says the books have been selling since last Christmas, and all the proceeds go directly into a trust fund for the four children.
“Sam worked here for several years,” Schirf says. “[after Boob died] People started buying Christmas gifts for the kids but we wanted to raise money to put in their trust funds.”
Schirf says the cookbook idea came about because when the authority used to have company meetings, Book used to cook a lot for the meetings.
Many of the recipes are Boob’s own, including various recipes for local game animals. Some of the other recipes come from Boob’s mother and grandmother, and nearly every recipe comes with a story, saying what that food meant to Boob.
The children, who range in age from three to 14, receive all the proceeds because the authority put up the original money to have the books published.
There are about 300 to 400 cook books left.
“We sold a lot at Christmas, but now its slowed down,” Schirf says. “We wanted to get $5,000 in each of the kid’s trust funds.”
