A Federal Aviation Administration preliminary report released on Thursday provided details about a single-engine plane’s emergency landing in a field near State College a day earlier.
The emergency landing happened at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in a field near University Drive in College Township, just east of State College Assembly of God Church.
According to the FAA report, the pilot of the Cessna 172 Skyhawk reported an emergency after hitting their head and becoming disoriented while encountering turbulence at 3,000 feet.

The pilot was able to land the plane in the field, which is about 5 miles linear distance from State College Regional Airport, without incident.
Neither the pilot nor the lone passenger were injured. The plane sustained only a dent to its right wing, damaged the FAA report described as minor.
According to aircraft tracking site FlightAware, the plane had departed from Leesburg, Virginia, at 9:55 a.m. Its intended final destination was not clear.
State College police responded to the emergency landing, but fire and EMS were not required.
