Ferguson Township police announced on Wednesday afternoon that the woman whose body was dumped on the roadside has been identified as 35-year-old Corinne Pena, a resident of the Philadelphia area.

Police had previously stated that they wouldn’t release the identity of the woman until the family had been notified.

Pena’s body was found on the 500-block of Plainfield Road early Sunday morning. An autopsy performed on Monday evening didn’t immediately find a cause of death or any trauma to the body, and the coroner’s office said that a toxicology test will not return results for a few weeks.

The Ferguson Township police department had provided photos of Pena’s tattoos on Monday in an attempt to identify her.

Police don’t believe that this death is related to the recent unsolved murder of 60-year-old township resident Jean Tuggy. There’s a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in that case.

Police believe that Pena was driven to the area, dumped on the roadside, and abandoned by a vehicle late on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning. The autopsy determined that the time of death was likely between 11 p.m. on Saturday and 3:20 a.m. on Sunday.

‘It appears the woman was transported by vehicle to the site where she was found and then abandoned there,’ police said. ‘There are no indications that the woman walked on her own to the place where she was found.’

The latest press release from the police department reiterated that the investigation is ongoing and that police are still attempting to pin down Pena’s whereabouts prior to her arrival in Ferguson Township. They ask that anyone with information call 1-800-479-0050.
