For the first time since the death of a Ferguson Township woman was ruled a homicide, details are emerging on the unsolved murder case.
Police were initially quiet about the cause of death and why it was ruled a homicide, but the now public cremation authorization form signed by county coroner Scott Sayers lists ‘gunshot wound to face’ as the cause of death.
Jean Tuggy, 60 of Pine Grove Mills, was found dead in her home on Jan. 21 when friends went to check on her. Police found no sign of forced entry or robbery and are still unsure of what motive might have existed for the murder.
No arrest has been made in connection with Tuggy’s death, and police are keeping details of the investigation under wraps for the time being.
The most recent press release from the Ferguson Township Police Department came on Jan. 27, in which they stated that ‘police are conducting initial and follow-up interviews with family, friends, and neighbors, as well as examining electronic communications.’
They warned all residents to be concerned about their personal and home safety, encouraging that people remain vigilant, lock doors and windows, trust their instincts, remain aware of their surroundings, and make sure you know and trust who is at your door before opening it.
County district attorney Stacy Parks Miller explained that the lack of public information is no accident in an e-mail sent to the Centre Daily Times.
“We still do not want to publicize too many details since if someone does have information, the best way to test the accuracy of that information is to see if they know true details,” Parks Miller said.
