Less than a week ago two inches of snow and ice fell in the State College area. Then it was record-setting temperatures in the 70s for two days. Now it’s heavy rain, and with it, the possibility of flooding.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for portions of central Pennsylvania, including all of Centre County from Thursday afternoon through 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Water levels are already running high and the ground is saturated.
‘With several periods of rain forecast through the weekend, this will increase the threat of flooding across the region,’ the NWS advisory said.
An additional 2 to 3 inches of rain are possible through the weekend. The heaviest rain is expected overnight on Saturday, according to AccuWeather. High temperatures Friday and Saturday are expected to be in the mid-40s with a high of 57 on Sunday.
NWS advises monitoring forecasts for possible flood warnings.
‘Those living in flood prone areas should be prepared to take action should flooding develop,’ the advisory said.
