Be careful getting around Wednesday morning — slippery conditions are possible in the hours ahead.
The National Weather Service has posted a Freezing Rain Advisory, beginning at 4 a.m. Wednesday and continuing until noon.
The advisory is for State College and most of Central Pennsylvania.
At 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, The State College Area School District announced that schools would open on a two hour delay. However, after reviewing weather conditions, the district later decided to close all schools for the day. School offices will open at noon.
AccuWeather Meteorologist Erik Pindrock says, “We can’t seem to shake winter’s grip. It appears there will be some concern for freezing rain, right at the start of the morning commute. Freezing rain could begin around 6 a.m. and will continue until 10 a.m.”
According to Pindrock, “Temperatures will be just below the freezing mark which means with so much snow on the ground there can be some icy spots during the commute. Temperatures will warm up above freezing after ten a.m. There will be some plain rain off and on until early afternoon.”
After days of cold and snow, we will finally get a break with some milder weather creeping in.
“There is a bit of a warmup,” says Pindrock. “Thursday there could be some morning fog, and temperatures should get up to around 43 for a high and then for Friday, a cold front will approach. There will be some rain followed by breaks of sun and a high of 49.”
