Gala to Benefit Centre County Women’s Resource Center

A Penn State student group will host a gala on Friday night to benefit the Centre County Women’s Resource Center as the culmination of the university’s Sexual Violence Awareness Week.

The Lion Ambassadors, Penn State’s student alumni corps, organized the gala with a theme focusing on bystander intervention. It will take place from 6-8 p.m. at Hintz Family Alumni Center on the University Park campus.

“Lion Ambassadors wanted to be involved in this weeklong project to represent those whose voices are not usually heard,” said Alice Guina, Lion Ambassadors university relations director and gala director in a release. “The Women’s Resource Center represents any member of the community — regardless of gender or sexual orientation — who has experienced sexual violence. We are very excited for this event and hope it continues on into the future.”

Tickets for the gala are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Cocktail attire is required.

All proceeds and donations from the evening will go to the CCWRC.

The gala will also serve as an introduction to the community of Penn State’s new Title IX coordinator Paul Apicella, who was named to the post on Nov. 30. In that position, Apicella leads efforts on preventing and responding to sexual misconduct.
