Gloomy skies, spirits cover Happy Valley

After the Penn State football team’s loss to Iowa Saturday, gloomy weather continued in State College this week, and the valley is looking far from happy.

Students walking to class are seen dawning their fall coats and putting up their hoods, looking far less excited and carefree as they had when the semester began.

During the first few weeks of warm weather, Penn State students could be seen lounging outdoors and covering the grass quads playing sports and relaxing, but the cool weather approached quickly (as per Penn State tradition) and attitudes have changed.

Bari Peyser (sophomore-finance) said, “This weekend, everything came to a halt. After the rainy game, our loss to Iowa and now this continuing bad weather, everyone seems to be a little down.”

Penn State’s giant drop in the NCAA football rankings, from No. 5 to No. 15, this week been a major factor in the haze that seems to be looming over State College.

Chris Corbett (sophomore-political science) attended the game and said the result has the student body and residents of State College in a bit of a funk.

“The crappy weather lately hasn’t been helping either,” he said. “Tthe weather here seems to turn so quickly; no one has time to adjust.”
