Heavy Truck Traffic Expected to Cause Delays, Noise Early Thursday Morning on West College Avenue

A concrete pour for a new apartment building under construction in Ferguson Township is expected to cause traffic delays and noise disturbance early Thursday morning.

About 30 to 45 concrete trucks will be traveling and operating from 3 to 7 a.m. in the area of the West College Avenue and South Buckhout Street intersection, where the six-story mixed-use building Aspen West End is under construction at 914 W. College Ave.

“Motorists and travelers should be aware of the traffic delays at the intersection of W. College Avenue and S. Buckhout Street and should plan accordingly,” according to a township news release.

Contractor Poole Anderson Construction provided written notice to neighboring residents about the work as a condition of a noise waiver issued by the township.

The waiver was granted, according to the township, to mitigate impacts on the heavily traveled area during higher traffic times that would occur during regular working hours and ensure safer conditions for workers at the site.

“The intersection of W. College Avenue and S. Buckhout Street is one of the most heavily traveled intersections in Ferguson Township, and the nature of this work and volume of construction vehicles would inherently cause obstructions and longer delays during regular working hours,” the news release said. “Lower temperatures during the night and early morning also create safer working conditions for construction site workers, and helps prevent heat-related illness and injury during a labor intensive project.”

Township supervisors approved last year Aspen Heights Partners’ land development plan for the 75-foot tall building. It will have 8,676 square feet of commercial and retail space on the first floor, while the upper five floors will have 96 apartment units — a mix of two- and three-bedroom units with a total of 268 beds.
