While Hurricane Irene menaces much of the East Coast this weekend, the storm’s impact in the State College area will be minimal, according to AccuWeather.com.

The Ferguson Township-based weather company is calling for a cloudy-but-dry Saturday in State College, with a high of 80 degrees.

Clouds will thicken as the day wears on, with a little rain — courtesy of Irene — expected to begin overnight into Sunday, AccuWeather.com noted.

Sunday is likely to be rainy as Irene moves north. But local rainfall totals from Saturday night through Sunday night should stay in the half-inch range, the agency’s forecasts show.

The weather in State College is forecast to dry out on Monday. Locally, the next chance for rain and thunderstorms will arrive Friday, according to AccuWeather.com.
