State Police are investigating a sexual assault that took place at Rockview Prison last week.
The assault, which involved a female victim who works for the prison and an inmate, occurred Thursday morning. Department of Corrections Susan McNaughton says the prison went into lockdown at about 10:30 a.m. after the assault.
“It’s not uncommon for our superintendents to order lockdowns at their institutions,” McNaughton says. “When there’s an assault involving a staff member, it affects all the staff, so the superintendent decided it was best to just lock everybody down for a couple of days.”
The lockdown continued through the weekend into this week before it was lifted yesterday.
Further information about the victim and inmate was unavailable as the investigation is ongoing.
